The best authentic Italian lodging in Tuscany

FILED IN: Italy, Travel

After visiting the area a few times, I’ve found some of the best authentic Italian lodging in Tuscany! If you are looking for the best activities and restaurants, here’s that post (currently being updated, coming soon).

Want to do a cooking class while you’re in Tiuscany? Here are my favorites // If you’re looking for a guide to the city of Florence specifically, it is here!

I’ve stayed in a couple Airbnbs that I would consider some of the best authentic Italian lodging in Tuscany!

18th century farmhouse on organic farm in Barberino Val D’elsa – the best authentic Italian lodging in Tuscany, sleeps 2

When we arrived, the owner (Federica) gave us a quick tour of her lovely place, including the grounds and terrace. She told us there are basically unlimited places around the property to explore, hike and take in the scenery! We enjoyed exploring, finding art installations, tons of wildflowers and endless beauty.

Since this property is located in the Chianti region of Tuscany, you will not tire of the gorgeous views and expanse to explore. The apartment consists of a full kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. I couldn’t get enough of the beautiful light that would spill into the cozy space.

The apartment opens onto a courtyard straight out of your favorite rustic home and gardens publication. We obviously spent any meals we had at the property on the terrace looking out onto the woods, olive groves and vineyards!

Selvabella in Chianti B&B – the best authentic Italian lodging in Tuscany

Selvabella is a farmhouse sitting among vineyards and olive groves in the heart of Tuscany, halfway between Greve and Panzano in Chianti. Immerse yourself in nature in their beautiful gardens and property, while still being able to explore Tuscany easily.

When my mom and I stayed on the property, we were in the Guest suite, but Walter and I have since stayed in the Guest house, photos and links to both below! I love the mixture of rustic and eclectic decor at Selvabella.

Guest Suite – sleeps 3

Guest House – sleeps 4

Marta and Bernardo host cooking classes in their main house! Details on that here.

You can enjoy homemade breakfast in the main house as well (or outside on the patio, weather permitting) upon request! Marta and Bernardo really made us feel right at home.

Marta also has a pottery studio where she creates wonderful pieces. Her dishes are now used at Nancy Silverton’s restaurants! Be sure to ask her to give you a tour of her studio. You may be eating off of some of her creations during breakfast or you can definitely spot them around Selvabella. We recently visited to see Marta and shop her gorgeous pieces!

Romitorio di Serelle – the best authentic Italian lodging in Tuscany

Upon arriving on the property, I knew I’d found a gem! They boast warm apartments in a laid-back countryside hotel offering dining, an outdoor pool & a wine bar. There are 15 apartments on property, ranging from sleeping 2 – 9 people.

I like that this is a hotel option, but with entire apartments. We really felt at home in our 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom apartment, complete with a kitchenette, and private patio. and I already want to return when we can utilize the pool. As you can see the views from this part of Chianti are breathtaking.

You can have breakfast on property if you let them know you’d like the day before. We did this one of the mornings that we wanted to take it easy. They also have a restaurant where we dined on the last night of our stay. It was a wonderful fixed menu with some of the best Tuscan ragu I have had.

  1. […] On our last morning in Maiori, we made breakfast, finished packing and were on our way. One of the guys who worked at the parking lot came up to the Airbnb to grab my luggage and direct us to our ride back to our car. We unpacked the shuttle, repacked our car, paid them and were on our way to Tuscany! Check out the Tuscany travel guide here! […]
